Overview

In the British Energy Security Strategy, the Government committed to develop local partnerships for onshore wind in England, enabling supportive communities who wish to host new onshore wind infrastructure to directly benefit from doing so.

This consultation is seeking views on making improvements to the way developers and communities engage when an onshore wind site it being proposed in a local area, and whether improvements can be made to the system of community benefits, so communities can directly benefit from cheap, clean, secure power. Read more about this consultation on GOV.UK.

What happens next

The consultation closes on 7 July 2023 and details on how to respond are provided in the General Information section of the consultation. Once the consultation has closed, government will analyse responses and set out how it intends to proceed in a government response. A government response will provide a summary of the views expressed in response to the consultation and will set out the decisions that government has taken.
